The book Monster is a fantastic novel that gives a great insight into the journey of a wrongly accused teenager. This modern style book was written by Walter Dean Myers, who has written many other teenage topic books. Monster is about an african-american teenager named Steve. Steve is only sixteen years old and is in a serious predicament. Two other men entered a drug store with the purpose of robbing the store. While entering, the owner was jumped by these two individules. The owner tried to pull out a licensed gun that he had but was taken of the weapon and shot by it. At that moment as the owner fell dead the two individuals fled the scene. Throughout the book, stories came from the defendents that Steven was in on the plan and that the previous day he scouted out the store.
"They take away your shoelaces and your belt so you cant kill yourself no matter how bad it is. I guess making you live is part of the punishment." (Steven). This clearly shows the exact emotions that were running through Stevens mind through his time in prison. My heart goes out to Steven cause I believe that this was an unfortunate case of "Wrong place at the wrong time."
